Williams Names Jeff Hussey State Fire Marshal

Director of Commerce Jacqueline T. Williams announced the appointment of current Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal and retired Granville Fire Chief Jeff A. Hussey as State Fire Marshal, effective July 23, 2017.

“Jeff brings to the office of State Fire Marshal a passion for serving citizens and the Ohio fire service,” Williams said. “As a dedicated firefighting professional and experienced public servant, he will continue to build upon the positive reputation of the Division of State Fire Marshal.”

Prior to being named State Fire Marshal, Hussey served as Chief Deputy State Fire Marshal, working alongside then-Marshal Larry Flowers. He has been serving as Interim State Fire Marshal since Flowers’ retirement in May.

“I’m incredibly passionate about the fire service, and I am especially excited to serve Ohioans in this capacity and keep them safe, sound and secure,” said Hussey. “At my core, I just like helping people, and this position will allow me to do that across the state."

Hussey began his career in the fire service in 1983 at the Mifflin Township Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks and eventually became an Assistant Chief. He also has served at the Westerville Fire Department, and taught EMS and firefighting courses at Columbus State Community College for more than a decade.

He received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Franklin University, has completed the Ohio Fire Chiefs Executive Fire Officer Leadership Program and is a nationally accredited Chief Fire Officer. He is also a certified firefighter II, paramedic, fire instructor and fire inspector.

Hussey lives in Granville with his wife, Patty. They have four children; Ryan, Julie, Danny and Ellie. A swearing in ceremony will be held for Hussey on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10 a.m. at the Fire Marshal’s office in Reynoldsburg.
