The City of Norwalk, OH (population 17,012 – 2010 Census) located in Huron County, approximately 50 miles west of Cleveland is seeking a highly collaborative and progressive fire professional to serve as its next Fire Chief. This challenging managerial opportunity calls for an individual who is an exceptional team player, innovator, and leader with the ability to focus on the ‘big picture’ while engaging and networking within the community.
The Norwalk Fire Department is dedicated to protecting the people, their property and the environment. This protection is delivered through the combination of services including fire suppression, emergency medical services, public education, code compliance and disaster response planning. The service area covered is approximately 50 square miles.
The department is staffed by 18 full-time firefighters including the Chief. Personnel from the rank of firefighter through captain are represented by the IAFF Local #1199. The department provides fire suppression, and ALS and EMS support.
The Fire Chief reports to the City Safety Service Director and is responsible for the overall administration and operations of the Fire Department. The Fire Chief is hired by the Fire Chief Selection Board.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Certified by the State of Ohio as a full-time firefighter (NFPA Level II), Hazmat Technician, Fire Safety Inspector, and Emergency Medical Technician
- Meet the service requirements of Norwalk Codified Ordinance 145.12
Licensure of Certification Requirements:
- Must possess a State of Ohio motor vehicle operator’s license and remain insurable under the City’s vehicle insurance policy.
