Due to a planned retirement, Genoa Township is accepting applications for the position of Fire Chief. Genoa Township is located in southeastern Delaware County northeast of the Columbus Metropolitan area. The Genoa Township Fire Department is a full-service agency serving a community of 26,000 residents in an area encompassing 21.5 square miles. The department has an authorized strength of 32 career and six part-time personnel and responds to 2,000 calls for service annually.
The Fire Chief is a direct report to the Township Administrator. This highly visible position requires an experienced individual who can provide enthusiastic, hands-on leadership and the ability to develop strong working relationships. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills, and have a broad background in all aspects of service delivery including suppression, EMS, prevention, inspection and training.
Requirements include a minimum of 10 years of full-time experience in fire and emergency medical services, with five years’ experience in a supervisory or management position (shift commander or higher). Applicants must also possess the following State of Ohio certifications: Firefighter II, EMT-B (EMT-P preferred), fire safety inspector (or the ability to obtain within six months) and a valid Ohio operator’s license. Completion of Fire Officer I-II-III training is also required. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Fire Science, Fire Administration, Public Safety Management, Business Administration, or related field is highly desired for this position. Completion of an executive development program such as the Executive Fire Officer Program (EFO) or the Ohio Fire Executive Program (OFE) is also highly preferred. The successful applicant must be in good physical condition and have the ability to pass all pre-employment screenings including physical examination and drug screening.
The salary range for this position is $109,000 - $114,000, DOQ and experience, and includes a comprehensive benefit package.
