Level II Firefighter/Paramedic

FOR FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

The City of London, Ohio will be accepting applications and conducting a civil service examination for the position of FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC until June 18,2026. No person shall be eligible to receive an original appointment as a firefighter in a fire department, subject to the civil service laws of this state, unless the person has reached the age of eighteen and has, not more than one hundred twenty days prior to receiving such appointment, passed a physical examination, given by a licensed physician, a physician assistant, a clinical nurse specialist, a certified nurse practitioner, or a certified nurse-midwife, certifying that the applicant is free of cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases, and showing that the person meets the physical requirements necessary to perform the duties of a firefighter as established by the civil service commission having jurisdiction over the appointment. The appointing authority shall, prior to making any such appointment, file with the Ohio police and fire pension fund a copy of the report or findings of said licensed physician, physician assistant, clinical nurse specialist, certified nurse practitioner, or certified nurse-midwife. No person shall be eligible to receive an original appointment on or after the person’s 36th birthday. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, possess a valid driver’s license, and possess State of Ohio Firefighter I & II and Paramedic Certification or are actively enrolled in a Paramedic class. Applicants are required to pass a physical agility test, background check, drug screen and a physical examination prior to employment. The City of London is an equal opportunity employer offering a starting salary range of $79,249.08 to $95,830.54 for Firefighter/Paramedic, uniform allowance, paid vacation after the first year, personal days, health insurance, educational allowance, 12 paid holidays at 1.3 times current hourly rate and 1.5 times current hourly rate if working and other benefits per bargaining unit contract. The following adjustments shall be made to the score of applicants on the condition that they pass the entry level examination with a score in all sections of 70% or greater. Additional credit shall be awarded to a maximum of 20% of the raw score. No applicant shall receive more than 20% additional credit. The London Civil Service Commission will not accept documentation for credit unless received by 4pm on June 18,2024 at the City of London Administrative Office.

1.Veteran’s credit – 20% additional credit shall be granted to Ohio residents who are honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces. (Must submit a copy of DD214, including block 24 at time of filing). 15% additional credit for active members of a reserve component (including Ohio National Guard) who successfully complete initial entry-level training.

2.Education credit – 10% maximum credit for a bachelor’s degree from a North Central Association of Colleges and

Schools (NCACS)accredited college or university. 5% credit for an associate’s degree from a North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) accredited college or university. A maximum of 10% will be given and the applicant must submit a copy of the Diploma at the time of filing.

3.Current part-time firefighter employment credit- 10 % additional credit for current City of London Div. of Fire/EMS part-time employees who have been actively employed by the City of London since January 1, 2024.

All applicants must obtain a City of London employment application from the London City Administration Office located at 20 S. Walnut Street, Suite 100, London, Ohio 43140, or on the city website at

https://www.londonohio.gov/current-open-positions. Applications and supporting documents must be received by personal delivery, mail, email or online to the Administration Office by 4:00PM on June 18, 2026. Applications can be emailed to admin@londonohio.gov.

The examination will be administered by the National Testing Network on behalf of the London Civil Service Commission. Testing dates, times and locations can be found at https://nationaltestingnetwork.com/publicsafetyjobs/index.cfm. Applicants must take the examination at an approved location by June 18, 2026. All applicants will be personally responsible for the price of the NTN exam and the fee to forward the results to the City of London. The National Testing Network does not replace the London Div. of Fire/EMS responsibility and decision making in the testing process. All candidate results are provided to the London Div. of Fire/EMS where the final decisions are made.

Those applicants meeting the minimum qualifications for the position, and receiving a passing score on the NTN examination, will be considered for eligibility. Applications will be considered and ruled upon by the CSC at the June 24,2026 meeting, a final list will be posted at the City of London Administrative Office and at http://www.londonohio.gov/.
